CALReUSE Remediation Program
Purpose
Assist with brownfield cleanup that will ultimately result in mixed use and residential development in infill areas.
Assistance Type
Grants and loans to non-profit, for-profit, or government entities. Eligible projects that meet affordable housing criteria may receive grants (at least 15% of the project creates affordable housing). All other eligible projects may receive loans.
Terms
Financing is available from $50,000 to $5 million for brownfield cleanup that ultimately results in mixed use and residential development in California's infill areas. Project must meet specific readiness criteria to be eligible for consideration. The entire project, from brownfield cleanup to conclusion of development, must be completed in no more than six years.
Eligible Activities
Brownfield cleanup, mitigation, remediation, mid-project assessment and characterization, and other costs including development costs as required by the Cleanup Plan; technical assistance; and the costs of the Oversight Agency. As much as twenty percent (20%) of the financial award may be spent on environmental insurance premiums.
